Zzyxx's Corner Ep. 4 'Feeding
the Addiction' |

It’s
been a while SWG fans. One may not have missed Zzyxx's Corner while
reading about other MMOs on gamebunny. Others might have thought
ol’ Z gave up writing articles for Lent. Although I did see “The
Passion” (excellent movie BTW), it didn’t inspire me to do such
a drastic thing. No, real life collided with my virtual life. A new
job,
new
city
,
new house… now I just need a new female wookie in my life. *heavy
sigh* Anyway, I thought I’d ease back into regular writing this
month with a very light topic.
|
For almost a month, I
went without playing SWG. I figured this would be a great chance for me to
work on other things. You know… pay my bills, pay my taxes, learn to
macramé. I figured I wouldn’t miss the game. Well folks, I was wrong. If
anything, it reinforced my addiction. I started concocting ways to get
on-line, even though I no longer had high-speed Internet. Here are a couple
of sick examples…
I was in
Sarasota
,
Florida
for vacation; a beautiful town, if you’ve
never been there. The first thing I noticed about my room… the gorgeous,
180 degree view of the
Gulf of Mexico
. The second thing I noticed was the high-speed
Internet connection. Yes, even on vacation, even in paradise, Z called to
me. For every hour I spent on the beach admiring the sand, bikinis, water,
bikinis, beer, bikinis, … did I mention bikinis?... I spent 2 hours in my
hotel room playing SWG.
On another occasion, I
checked into a Hampton Inn rather than staying with family (during my move),
so I could hop on-line “just to check my maintenance”. Further, I was at
a wedding in
Denver
. Beautiful weather, beautiful bridesmaids
(I was the Best Man), and I still managed to sneak away for some quick
pistol experience grinding.
To answer the question
on everyone’s mind, yes I am in therapy and I’m doing well. My
watercolors are quite striking (even though they are of wookie women). What
the heck is my point here? I don’t have one =P
Ok… one small
point… As we approach summer (for our Northern Hemisphere readers), take
an hour or two out of your day to go outside for a walk. Enjoy the sunshine.
Go to the pool. When I was a kid, we played outside from morning till
9pm
(when we were unceremoniously called in by
our mothers). We played with sticks and called them lightsabers. We fought
trees and called them Stormtroopers. We ate worms and dirt, and we liked
it… oh how we loved it!!! Ok
that last part wasn’t true.
Even though we continue
to get more mobile, more connected (virtually), more addicted to games; take
the time to enjoy real life. It ain’t that bad. Go out and enjoy the
summer, and be careful while you do it. That is until Doom3 comes out…
then by all means spend your summers in doors.
In my next installment
of Zzyxx's Corner, I will return to more informative matters when I discuss
the joys, trials, and some advice on becoming a Smuggler. Till next time
kids, may all your weapons be repaired with only minor blemishes. May the
Force Be With You. Big Z has
left the building.
