It has been sung that "Oz
never gave nothing to the Tin Man - Nothing that he didn't already have!"
With MMORPGs, what is the best
question to ask yourself?
Do I play them, because I want
to be closer to the world of my dreams?
Have I replaced something in
real life with the sparkling adventures awaiting for me at the gate to my
newest game?
Well, truth be told
- next generation kids growing up with chat rooms and online games in RL (
game players acronym for "Real Life") must learn how
to deal with the reality bout two worlds. One real, and
virtually real. Yet in our minds, we find a sense of freedom in
expressing new ideas and limitless self.
Are parents ready for the
challenge? My suggestion is to start playing games with your kids.
Especially the mmorpgs. Learn all you can about today's Oz.
When kids play with toys, and
imagine what they are doing - they develop healthy skills of perception.
This guides us toward growing up and learning how to cope with
reality, because reality happens in situations with people,
places and things. However, this reality runs parallel
with today's progressive online universe. Each of us who plays online is
seeing a storytellers' projection of a real person. It doesn't
really matter if it's female or male - well unless your looking for that.
The thought alone is
astounding when you realize how that, in our civilization, we are building
things that help us explore different roles, other times, and other
places in a dimension that we have grown accustomed to manipulating. with
a keyboard, mouse, or console controller.
Thus it might be said that we
are creating a dual-channel of feedback for our minds.
One channel reveals the
absolute reality - where we can see each other, touch each other,
and get into a car crash. The other channel reveals a place where we can
see each other, but not touch, get into a car crash ( over
and over again), but only get agitated.
Yet through both channels -
one thing stands - the reality that your journey in life comes
down to the condition of your heart and mind. This is one
common denominator that exists on both channels. Now the Tin Man
didn't know he had a heart until it broke. The Lion didn't have
courage until he stood up against his fears. The Scarecrow didn't have a
brain until he used it.
Like the lyrics from that
classic song - "Oz never gave nothing to the Tin Man that he
already didn't have."
