Hey, hey, nonny no - how’s about some quick news to go?! Let’s take a look at some of the MMO and multiplayer gaming news of the day, shall we?
First up, as you may have heard - STARCRAFT II has officially been pushed to the first quarter of 2010. We all pretty much saw that one coming but that won’t make the wait any easier. Apparently, the delay is mostly due to Blizzard’s refurbished Battle.net requiring more time in the oven.
HUXLEY’s Closed Beta is now “Open” to all through FilePlanet. Interested fraggers need only to hop here for the initial sign-up.
The first hard details for Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY XIV have come to light. Most of the races are similar, re-named vesions of those found in FFXI. Also of note, the new MMO is foregoing levels and experience points and features a “Gatherer” class focused on gardening and fishing.
And lastly, Jeff Hollis (aka Pig) of Wandering Goblin lays out the reasons why he believes sci fi MMOs usually fail. Certainly, sci fi MMOs haven’t done as well as fantasy-based worlds. Read this week’s MMO Weekly and see if you agree with Pig’s rationale.
“Gamasutra Blizzard Quote: Morhaime explained that in addition to tournaments, rankings and multiplayer matching, the new Battle.net will ‘add social networking features, cross-game communications, unified log-in and account management and more.’
‘Eventually, it will allow [players] to connect, communicate and share experiences with each other through the service regardless of which blizzard games they are playing,’ Morhaime added.”
