What the hell does the above headline mean? It means there’s two MMO stories I want to point you towards today; DUNGEONS & DRAGONS is going free-to-play and PUZZLE PIRATES (PICTURED) has revealed player revenue statistics.
This summer, Turbine will prop “Eberron Unlimited“, a free upgrade for DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ONLINE, which will introduce the free-to-play model, allowing users to purchase in-game goods with “Turbine Points”. Those opposed to purchasing points will still be able to earn them in-game.
Three Rings’ Daniel James has published hard earnings numbers for PUZZLE PIRATES, stating that the company earns 300k a month from the game. James wishes more companies would be forthcoming with true stats. Hear hear! At the very least, we’re certainly curious.
“Puzzle Pirates: According to Daniel James, this ‘reluctance to clearly report revenues is a deliberate attempt to obfuscate the numbers.’ James is CEO of San Francisco-based Three Rings Design. ‘There seems to be a perception,’ he explains, ‘that there is a business advantage to not being transparent. But I disagree.’ “
