CHRONICLES OF SPELLBORN: Acclaim has announced that THE CHRONICLES OF SPELLBORN, around six, long years in-the-making, will be released in North America on November 27th, 2008.
Confusingly, the Acclaim’s press release for TCoS stated that the game would be Free-to-Play (like all of Acclaim’s other online titles), when it finally dropped on the public! Then, with a backpedaling-motion, it was announced that only the starting zone would be free. Players would have to pony up cash to actually play the full game after all.
There was a time, back before WORLD OF WARCRAFT was released, when I was eagerly awaiting this promising title. The graphics were amazing for 2002-2003 and a few interesting new MMO concepts were being promised. Now, SPELLBORN will arrive around the same time as WoW’s Wrath of the Lich King expansion and in the wake of the highly-successful WARHAMMER ONLINE debut. The marketplace is a bit more crowded these days. Nevertheless, I wish the devs luck and am glad to see TCoS finally releasing. I just never thought I’d be greeting the news with a shrug. It took too long guys!
“The Chronicles of Spellborn (TCoS) is an MMO under development by Spellborn NV using the renowned UnrealĀ® Engineā¢. Players take the role of heroes in a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting where a vast adventure unfolds in an authentic living world.”
