GODS & HEROES: I’m going to go out on a limb here, risking future embarrassment, and predict that Perpetual Entertainment’s GODS & HEROES: Rome Rising will not be released in August (as listed on IGN and GameSpy).
On what basis do I make this prediction? The answer: Time. We are now 11 days away from August. No word has come from Perpetual or SOE’s Platform Publishing on an exact release date for the game and Open Beta has not yet ensued.
Now, an Open Beta for G&H is not a given. The devs may have decided to skip this highly-compelling marketing tool. But, at this point in time, we should be hearing of an exact day in August when the game will be available. We should have Pre-Order box details. Possibly even a Gold Master press release announcement (granted, we don’t often get those for MMOS)…something. Perhaps Perpetual will announce a firm August date within the next week or two and we’ll all hug and laugh together at my stupidity. Here’s hoping.
To tide you over, check out this new look at the Gladiator class, “…from Concept to Reality” over at IGN and sign-up for Closed Beta.
“The Gladiator was an obvious choice for the game, and was the first character class to be developed. The historical gladiators were as much flamboyant showmen as professional warriors, and were as skilled at playing to the crowd as they were at the vicious trick-fighting techniques that they used to achieve victory. Given this, says Stieg Hedlund, design director for G&H, the Gladiator character class was created ‘for the player who wants to get into the thick of a fight and mix it up.’ But, being a pro, a Gladiator can also ‘keep his cool and get himself out of trouble if need be.’ “
